Traditional comfort food. I used whole wheat flour and a small butternut squash instead of potatoes (more fiber and nutrients and they cook up with exactly the same texture and more flavor). I will make this again.

This is a very good recipe if you're looking for a simple and easy to prepare slow cooker beef stew! It's not very salty so just add salt, each to their own taste, and everyone's happy!

This stew was a smash hit with my family. I followed Corinne's suggestions however only used 1/2 packet of McCormick seasoning. I used two onions when browning the meat. I would add at least another stalk of celery as well. I cooked for 4 hours on high and then 3.5 hours on low. Great flavor, great recipe!

Made this just as written, tasted yummy and the house smelled great all day long while it was simmering in the crockpot! Next time I make this I may double the broth and add more potatoes and veggies - I like to make LOTS when I make soups/stews and freeze the leftovers for work lunches and this recipe didn't make a ton of stew.

WAY too much onion! Garlic, bay leaves and the other spices involved can enhance the flavor of something without overwhelming it. Onions on the other hand will dominate the flavor of anything unless used sparingly. Also the celery comes out squishy if cooked from the very beginning, and the carrots come out squishy and bitter tasting. I would add the celery and carrots near the very end, so that thy are cooked just enough to make them palatable.
